November 16, 2005 - Finding Our Way

We have officially reached the point in the semester where students begin to lose steam, become overwhelmed with class projects, tests, papers and the impending finals rush. It is a very interesting time in the life of campus ministry because many students battle whether or not to disengage from their

Plugging In....
by Breck Fisher, freshman
Delta Delta Delta
I have only been involved with Greek Impact since September, and already, after two months I feel like I have found my niche within a bigger niche. I feel so good about my decision to rush in August, and I love being involved in the Greek System, but going one step further and going deeper into a different organization has helped me to grow in ways I never thought I would. I have been pleasantly surprised by my eagerness to be involved, and have never felt anything but accepted by GI and its members. I see God in everyone there and it is so nice to have that fill my Monday nights.
Through my FOCUS group with Amy and a good friend from home, Megan, I've been able to grow more personally
in my faith, and have a fellowship which I've come to depend on. I cannot wait to see how else Greek Impact will affect me, and I truly looking forward to my next three and a half years with the organization.

'extra-curriculars' to focus on school work.
Our challenge this Fall has been to engage students in such a way that they want to make Greek IMPACT on Monday nights - and also their regular walk with the Lord - a priority in their life. It is our desire that Monday nights will become a 'non-negotiable' in students lives, much like a sporting event, a review session or a chapter meeting might be. We know this is an uphill battle, but it's one that we're willing to fight.

Campus Unplugged...
Caroline Parker, sophomore Chi Omega
When my mom passed away in
October of last year, I knew that I needed God back in my life to get through
the times ahead. A girl in my sorority suggested that I come to a Greek
Impact meeting, and I have been going ever since. It has been such a great
way for me to keep strengthening my relationship with God. Greek Impact helped me keep my faith
through a very tough time in my life, and I have truly enjoyed my involve-ment
in it over the past year. |

The last several weeks we have been wrestling with the question, "Is the Cross Enough?" I have challened students to look past the Cross and live in the reality of the Resurrection, because that's where we find true life. The Cross, I have noted, will assure us of salvation, but if we end their then we find ourselves continually coming back to that same Cross for forgiveness. And this can breed guilt. By knowing the Resurrection, though, we see a living God who invites us to truly live, not to keep coming back to the Cross, guilty and asking for forgiveness. For more on this issue, please check out the Summaries from those talks.
In other news...we are in the early stages of planning an All-Greek Ski Retreat for January. This is a weekend that many of our students have grown up taking part in with their local |
| churches, but don't really have an outlet for here on campus. It is our desire that this would be a weekend that is open to all Greek students regardless of faith. The goal of the weekend will be twofold: first to ski and hang out with tons of other Greek students and secondly to hear the gospel proclaimed. We will offer an evangelistics gospel presentation on Saturday night that will be optional to students - but we hope all will want to attend after having a great day on the slopes with their peers. Please pray for us as we work through the logistics of what could be a powerful weekend retreat for this campus - both this year and for years to come. |
