Getaway Provides Focus & Friendship

Twenty Three students joined us for a weekend at Wrightsville Beach for Greek Getaway, Oct. 14-16. The structure of the weekend was very casual - a devotional on rest was provided for Saturday and I led a discussion based on Matthew 11:25-29 over breakfast on Sunday. It was a great time for students to getaway from the social and academic pressures of Chapel Hill and be with one-another in community. Fifteen students weren’t involved in the ministry at this point last year, while one guy, a freshman, was forced to come by an older fraternity brother. Now that’s effective ‘hazing’! The 80+ degree weather allowed us a beautiful day on the beach Saturday, and students walked away feeling more connected both to folks they have known for some time as well as people they had never connected with in the Greek system before.

Greek Getaway was an awesome time because I got to know everyone in such a comfortable setting. Although I knew only a select few, everyone was eager to make me feel like part of the group, whether it be throwing the frisbee or asking me about classes, and this hospitality and comfort made the weekend truly great. Without this weekend and these people that I met, I may have never known about Greek Impact or the great people involved in it. I plan on attending many Greek Impact events in the future, and this weekend is to credit for my new involvement."

... The challenge of both serving as the Director for the Charlotte Greek Conference (2.17-19) AND heading up our local recruiting efforts is becoming evident. Pray for my focus and endurance as I try to do both well.

... Student leader partnership in recruiting for Conference has been difficult. Pray that they would take risks in inviting thier friends to this weekend.

... We are taking the idea of "being fully ALIVE," a step further this semester by tackling what "faith as a way of life" looks like.

... My schedule is packed this semester, as I am discipling 19 men and women and leading three 'team ministry' meetings each week. Pray for my leadership of those students. Also pray that leaders would step up to the challenge to lead their area of ministry focus well.
